Head Teacher's Message
The real strength of The Castle School lies in the remarkable breadth of its achievements. Our last OFSTED inspection concluded that 'This is an outstanding school. It maintains the many areas of excellence reported at the last inspection. It has subsequently improved its performance highly successfully....' Yet it is not only in the academic areas nor upon our examination results, excellent though they are year on year, that we base our belief that the school is exceptional. The extraordinary achievements of our students in sport, the arts and in their significant contribution to the community, add vital ingredients to make this school special. These achievements have gained awards locally, nationally and from Government Departments.
Visitors to the school quickly identify a genuine team spirit in all our areas of endeavour; a spirit which encompasses our students, teachers, governors and support staff. It is, in fact, the real ethos of success. Each individual is valued. Success, whether individual or corporate, is celebrated by all. We believe that we provide an education which both prepares a young person for the future but is also rewarding and enjoyable in its own right. Independent assessors: OFSTED, CharterMark, The Arts Council, Investors in People, South West Industry in Education, Somerset Careers and the Sports Council of England and Wales, to name only a significant handful, have been unanimous in their affirmation of this belief over a period of several years.
We expect high standards from our students in all aspects of school life: conduct; academic work; appearance. We also have high expectations of parents and the important contribution which they make to their child's education. In return, we hope that students and their parents expect similar standards from the school. Indeed, the partnership between students, parents and the school is viewed as central to our philosophy. You are always welcome to visit the school. Meetings are held in the Autumn Term, during the school day and in the evening, when parents of students who will transfer from Year 6 of primary school are invited to tour the school and meet students and staff. Parents of students transferring at other times may make an appointment for a similar opportunity to see the school at work by telephoning the headteacher's secretary, Julie Gregory. I hope you will find our website and prospectus helpful and I look forward to meeting you.
