LETTER FROM THE FRIENDS OF THE CASTLE SCHOOL

Dear Parents/ Guardians / Carers

The Friends of The Castle School is a charitable organisation raising money to support the pupils and staff by providing extras funds to enhance the school environment.

We have always relied upon a small number of volunteers to organise and man events in order to raise this money.

This is becoming increasingly difficult with work and family commitments. As this is a familiar situation, we are now looking at a different approach.

To enable us to continue the current level of support it has been decided by the Committee and approved by the Governing body to ask each family in the school for a voluntary contribution to a ‘School Fund’. The suggested contribution to the new ‘School Fund’ is £10. ***

Whilst this will not take the place of all the events it will mean that you, as busy parents, can feel you have contributed without feeling pressured into attending such events.

Please hand your contribution, in an envelope, to Mrs Rogers at Student Reception.

Thanking you for your continued support.

The Friends of The Castle School.

* Cheques made payable to The Friends of The Castle School ** Data Protection – No personal record of payment will be kept *** This amount is a suggestion – larger or smaller donations accepted

“ANYTHING GOES”

Tuesday 9 February, Wednesday 10 February and Thursday 11 February starting at 7.00pm

The title song begins “Times have changed ………” but have they?

The original plot for this 1934 musical comedy had a “mad bomber” running around a transatlantic cruise liner, trying to set off explosives to further his own political purposes. Unfortunately, a few weeks into rehearsal and a real cruise liner suffered a major fire and 137 lives were lost. A hasty re-write was ordered and the plot transformed into what we put before you tonight. The blowing up of a transatlantic transport was not deemed to be suitable subject material for a musical comedy.

“Times have changed ……..” but have they?

I recently re-watched two classic old movies of the period. “ Casablanca” has everyone in the heat of Morocco always wearing hats. Humphrey Bogart smokes 40 cigarettes a scene and two bottles of Bourbon disappear every five minutes.

“Times have changed ……..” but have they?

If we hold up our modern politically correct magnifying glass to the content of this show, then we see it for what it is. A piece of fluff, of which several parts could be deemed to be in very dubious taste. But should we care?

“Times have changed ……..” but have they?

Enjoy our evening for what it is, and try not to worry too much about this snapshot of 1930’s life in the mid-Atlantic.

“Times have changed ……..” but have they?

Mr S Mitchell. Director.
