PARENT/STUDENT BULLETIN NO 11/2009/2010 Tuesday, 23 February 2010

Dear Parent
1. Year 11 Students
With the start of the examinations now only nine school weeks away (plus two weeks of school holiday), students should be carrying out extensive revision at home. Such revision provides essential support to the preparation that teachers will be leading during lessons. It is difficult to provide a definitive guideline on the amount of time that needs to be spent in this way. However, a programme involving an average of 2 hours of study each week day evening, together with 3 to 4 hours over each weekend should provide a solid base in preparing for the examinations. The Easter holiday period is also a time when significant revision can be done. Further guidance for year 11 students was posted to families recently, together with a copy of their most recent report.
2. Daily Mail Masterheads.
One last plea for any Daily Mail Masterheads that you may have tucked away at home. We are 250 Masterheads short of our target, which will give us £500 in sponsorship. If we dont make up this deficit by Friday 26 February we will only receive £300, so please send any Masterheads in by this Friday. Thank you to all parents and students who have done so already.
3. Sainsburys School Sports Vouchers.
We are again, this year, collecting Sainsburys Vouchers and would be extremely grateful, if you shop at Sainsburys, to receive any vouchers that parents are able to collect. Any vouchers can be deposited in the boxes provided which will be situated in the Library and the Main Reception.
4. Year 11 Interim Assessments (IAs)
Interim Assessment Reports will be sent home with students on Tuesday 30 March 2010.
5. Non Uniform Day

7. Year 10 Interim Assessments (IAs)
Interim assessment reports will be sent home with students on Wednesday 10 March 2010.
8. Year 8 Parents Evening.
There will be a year 8, subjects, teacher consultation evening for parents and carers on Tuesday 23 March 2010. You will receive a letter closer to the time about the evening.
9. World Book Day Thursday 4 March
In order to celebrate World Book Day, your child will have had the opportunity to receive a World Book Day voucher that may be used either in exchange for one of the WBD books, or to save £1 off the purchase of a book or audio book worth £2.99 or more. This can be done in any participating book shops, those of which are mentioned on the voucher. They are valid from Monday 1 March until Sunday 28 March. Yr 11 may like to use their voucher towards a revision guide!

You are warmly invited to our Music in the Making concert in the main hall starting at 7.00pm. Many different ensembles will be performing and we are also delighted to have Galatia as our guest performers at the evening. Galatia is a band that has got through to the second round of the Live and Unsigned competition in Cheltenham and comprise some of our students and ex-students (Maddie Beckhelling, Seb Jones, Joe Beckhelling, Nathan Gee and Simon Corke). Tickets will be on sale from the Finance Office from Monday 8 March, £3.50 for adults, and £2.00 for students/concessions. Please fill in the form at the end of this Bulletin and return to the Finance Office.
11. School Uniform
We expect all students to follow the uniform code and will continue to work hard through the year to ensure that it is enforced. It is essential that parents continue to be vigilant in this respect in order to help us maintain the high standard of dress. In particular the length of girls skirts has become an issue in recent weeks. Skirts should be worn between mid thigh and mid calf. I shall be looking to enforce this policy strictly and I would, therefore, ask that parents ensure this is followed.
I must stress that training shoes must not be worn to school at any time without the support of a medical note, and that there is a requirement that students should not wear braids or beads in their hair. Any item worn under shirt or blouse must be white.
