1.         End of Autumn Term: Beginning of Spring Term
Friday, 18 December is the final day of the Autumn Term. There will be a phased dismissal of students on this day, commencing at 3.00pm.
The first day of the Spring Term is Monday 4 January 2010 (this is a week one on our two week timetable).
 
2.         Carol Service at St John’s Church, Park Street, Taunton  – Thursday 10 Dec at 7.00pm - The service is one of the highlights of the school year and parents and friends of the school are warmly invited to attend.
 
Sunday 13th December at N.Curry-Folk Group performances with other folk groups in the area +Christmas celebrations.
 
3.         "Comeytrowe Equestrian are having their Christmas Fair on 12th December from 11.30 am - 4.30pm – see attached Poster
 
4.         The School Pantomime 2009
Last year, at the end of term, some of The Castle School teachers and support staff put on a short Pantomime just for the fun, enjoyment and entertainment of the students.  At the time, it was billed as a ‘One Off’. 
Well, success and loud calls of ‘Encore’ having gone to our heads, we are pleased once again to be able to tell you that the experience is to be repeated! 
Once again, the cast of the pantomime will remain ‘Top Secret’ until the performance which will take place in the Main Hall on Monday 14 December 2009 at 4pm
Entrance (for students only, we’re afraid) is by ticket only.  These will cost £1.50 and will be available from the Finance Office from Wednesday 9 December.  Numbers will be limited so its ‘first come, first served’.  All monies raised will be divided between the chosen House Charities.
5.       School Christmas Lunch: Tuesday 15 December 2009
There are still tickets available for the school Christmas Lunch from the canteen, priced £2.50. (The only food available at lunchtime on 15 December will be Christmas lunch). Please see the Christmas menu in the dining area
6.         Variety Show
Tickets are now on sale for the Variety Show which will be held at the school on Thursday 17 December at 7pm (allocated on a first come first serve basis) at a cost of £3 for adults and £2 for children and senior citizens. If you wish to purchase tickets, please complete the slip at the end of the bulletin and return to the Finance Office with your cheque or monies.
The Friends of The Castle School will be serving mulled wine and mince pies for your enjoyment during the interval, for a small donation to the school funds.
 
7.         Fashion Show: Thursday 21 January 2010: 7pm
The Castle School is holding its annual Fashion Show on Thursday, 21 January 2010 starting at 7.00pm.
Local shops will be advertising their designs and there will also be work by students who will be promoting their own work and fun House fashion competitions. It will be another spectacular catwalk experience and a wonderful chance for parents to view their child’s work. Tickets will be on sale from Thursday 14 January 2010 from the school Finance Office at £3 per ticket for adults and £2 per ticket for students and concessions, on a ‘first come first served’ basis. If you would like tickets for the show, please complete and return the slip at the end of this Bulletin to the school Finance Office.  
8.         10L2’s House Enterprise
For 10L2’s Enterprise we are serving hot drinks, squash and cakes for afterschool productions and parents evenings so they would be glad of your support when you attend any after school function. 
9.         Lost Property Day
On Wednesday 9 December we will be having another ‘Lost Property Clearance Day’. All lost property we have such as trainers, PE Kit, coats, jackets, school uniform such as blazers, shirts, trousers, in fact, anything that is clothing, will be put out for the students to look at to see if any of their unlabelled lost property is there. Any more valuable lost property such as jewellery, watches, rings, memory sticks, or small items such as hair brushes etc. will be kept on the Student Reception for the students to request to see. 
This will happen during break time and lunch time for students and after school for parents from 3.45 until 4.15pm. Any unclaimed lost property will later be donated to a local charity.
 
10.       Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm
 
For several years, Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm has provided the school with a tree for the festive period and we would like to thank Reg and Ann Hendy for this kind donation.  Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm is a family run 30 acre farm, located close to Langford Budville, Near Wellington. Nordman & Fraser Fir trees from 4ft – 16ft and Norway Spruce & Scots Pine trees from 5ft – 8ft are available to buy between 9am-6pm from now until Christmas. (Tel: 01823 400476 or visit the website – www.langfordlakes.co.uk).
 
11.       Christmas Hampers
Over the last few years the school has collected goods to give to the Women’s Refuge at Christmas. The Refuge provides shelter for women and children who are at risk of violence. We ask each class to provide and fill a box and any of the following items would be gratefully received:
 Women - Vouchers (to the value of £5) for Boots, Superdrug, Lush, M& S, The Body Shop etc; books, eg from Bestseller list; nice chocolate; games/jigsaws; fancy mugs;
socks; gloves, hat and scarf sets; nice toiletry sets eg from Lush, Boots or The Body Shop; wallets/bags.
Young People - Vouchers (to the value of £5) for Virgin, i-Tunes, New Look, or bowling etc; hair accessories, diaries, bracelets or jewellery eg from Claires Accessories; purses/bags; notebook sets; nail art sets or nail polish; funky toiletry sets; posters, eg contemporary art.
Children - Paints; play-dough; pencils/colouring pencils/felt; collage sets; art sets;
Train sets; toy cars; bath toys; baby play mats; toy shape sorters;
Toddler walkers (push alongs); watches; fun bed sets; real play cameras;
personal CD players; musical instruments; toy prams; baby dolls and accessories; dressing up clothes; dolls houses.
Collecting for the hampers starts on Monday 30 November until Monday 14 December and will be taken to the refuge on Tuesday 15 December. Thank you for helping those who are less fortunate than yourselves.

13.       The next ‘Friends of Castle School ‘ meeting will be on Tuesday 26 January2010 in the Library at 7pm. Please do come along. We like to welcome new members to our friendly, informal group so if you just want to come along to see what we do, just turn up.
