The Castle School Performing and Expressive Arts Faulty has a lead role in the combined schools project which takes place annually at The Brewhouse Theatre.
The annual school drama production enlists the help and support of local community and business groups.
A local sound company will help with the training of the students tech-crew.
All pupils at the school will participate in Curricular Drama lessons during Years 7, 8 and 9 and GCSE Drama is a popular Option for Years 10 and 11.
The school provides many extra-curricular opportunities for students to take part in dramatic productions as performers, designers, technical assistants or backstage workers. There is a major production each year and many smaller performance projects during the year.
In 2008 we presented work at The Brewhouse Theatre (Years 7/8 and 10). We had 4 nights sold out for the musical "WestSide Story" and several other lower key performances.
In February 2009 we presented our own adaptation of Charles Dickens novel "Oliver Twist".
In 2009 Inter House Drama Contest will take place and at Christmas time we have the tradition of a school variety show - now well beyond its 20th year.
In addition to participating as "performers", we encourage the development of skills in other areas of theatre such as lighting, sound and stage management. All performances are "crewed" not by staff but by our own "technical team" of Year 10 and 11 pupils.
2010 sees us embarking on a production of 'Anything Goes.'
.......students themselves can take an increasing and proper degree of responsibility for their own learning because staff provide tham with a range of 'tools' to do so.
