All year 7 students visit Lillesdon Court farm, a working farm near Taunton, to enhance their understanding of the work being carried out on a working farm.
Year 11 students have set up interviews with local community and business people to obtain viewpoints surrounding local issues. These people have included the local MP, town centre manager, parish councillor, town planners and officials at TDBC and SCC responsible for highways, leisure and housing developments. This work can now incorporate the work carried out by Project Taunton.
Some students use the work experience time in year 11 to collect data and information which relates to their geography enquiry.
The business simulation used in the year 10 industry day involves the planning for a housing development.
Year 10/11 – Dawlish Warren field trip
Year 8 – work with River Tone Flood management – examination of this issue – link with work of the Environment Agency
Year 9 – Global Fashion Unit introduced – looking at global interdependence and impact on UK Textile industry.
Year 8 – World Sport Unit introduced – looking at London 2012 Olympic plan and redevelopment.
Year 8 – Eden Project – from April 2009 have set up joint visit with Technology Dept to Eden Project in Cornwall, working on biomes, conservation issues, adaptation of species.
Year 7 – Project Taunton – pupils linked via assignment (+ work of Mr Howe and school based team). Examination of planning proposals and regeneration of CBD and Inner Town area.
Year 7 – joint visit to Lillesdon Court Farm with Science Dept.
Students are exceptionally clear about medium and long-term targets.
