Science

The Department is an active and lively forum for students to undertake their studies with an increasing emphasis on the application of the various branches of the subject.

Work placement visits to local businesses with a science bias form a regular part of our year's programme. The Year 9 Pre GCSE course will have an applied science focus (Food additives / Sustainability / Energy resources). Year 10 girls are taken to Bristol University for their popular Women into science day and a visit is arranged for our younger students to Bristol Zoo. WE have established links with the Genesis Centre at SCAT, and participate in competitions and have access to their resources. Planning figures obtained through the Project Taunton link examine sustainability and transport issues.

Within the school we look for relevant cross-curricular links. We collaborate with Geography during their annual Farm visits in the Summer Term. Visit to Goonhilly / Porthcurno give our students the opportunity to look at different aspect of telecommunications. We arrange visits by outside speakers and scientists wherever possible and this has included scientists from CERN talking about aspects of Nuclear Physics. In this we have linked with Courtfields School. Science offers Independent Advice and Guidance sessions during lunch time registration periods.

Boys and girls achieve exceptionally well.
