Textiles

The aim of Creative Textiles is to provide a course, which concentrates on the use of fabrics in a design context.

Today fabrics can be made from many things. Nearly half of the fibres in use are made from chemicals, the rest from plant and animal sources. Creative Textiles involves an imaginative exploration of fabrics ranging from paper and plastic to cotton and silk.

Students should enter a specialist area that is at once stimulating and invigorating, challenging and exciting. They will begin to follow a carefully planned sequenced programme which will build confidence in handling tools and materials and establish a purposeful base for the expressive use of textile media as both a functional and decorative artform.

Through investigation of cultural, social and environmental issues they will be encouraged to develop their work using design sources and methods from both their own and other cultures.
